- Oprah was born into poverty to a teenage single mom, and then raised by her grandma who was extremely poor.
- She had decided to get herself to where she wanted to be in life and became an honour student.
- She got her first television part-time job in her senior year of high school at WVOL, a black radio station.
- She grew up to be the youngest and first black woman to anchor the news at Nashville’s WLAC-TV.
- Oprah then got her own TV talk show- The Oprah Winfrey Show, in which she had made into the most watched and successful talk show of all time.
- Oprah is a powerful role model for women, and black women in specific.
- Oprah focuses on the topics of self-improvement, spirituality, and self-help.
- She has been known to getting celebrities to open up and confess their problems, talking about sexual harassment, bullying, gay/lesbian rumors and physical as well as mental illnesses they face.
- She is the founder of the most influential book club in the world, Oprah Winfrey Book Club.
- In 1985, she had starred in ‘The Color Purple’, a film about the segregation in America’s deep south directed by Steven Spieberg.
- Oprah managed to publish two magazines, The Oprah Magazine and O At Home.
- Oprah donates more to charity than any other TV show celebrity in the world.
- She is the 235th richest person in the world, and on the top 50 most generous Americans list in terms of charity.
